A remarkable story from the Democratic Republic of Congo 🇨🇩 102-year-old 1st Sergeant-Major Luhembwe Alfani is still serving in the military after an incredible 78 years of service.
He met with Vice Prime Minister of National Defense Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita on Thursday, who praised his lifelong dedication to the nation.

“Seventy-eight years of loyal service to the Congolese nation in the ranks of the FARDC 1st Sergeant-Major Luhembwe Alfani, aged 102, remains active under the flag,” Muadiamvita wrote on social media, adding that Alfani will soon receive a national decoration for his service.

Alfani currently serves as a non-commissioned officer at the Kisangani garrison, though it remains unclear why he has not yet retired.
