South Sudanese Artist, known as Honey Franko Has announced that he will be a Guest Artist at the Storytelling as Safeguarding event on May 22, 9am - 1pm at Eastlands Library in Nairobi in a weeks time.
He will be performing alongside an awesome group of young women heritage advocates who have gone ahead and achieved the amazing feat of documenting and archiving 400 songs from women elders from 4 different South Sudanese communities living in refugee settings in Uganda and Kenya. We're talking intercultural dialogue in action!
Our team of Kakwa ladies alone have recorded, transcribed, translated and are producing a podcast about 100 Kakwa songs shared with them by their elders in Rhino Camp. This is historic!
On the day of the event, Honey Franko is going to release a new track inspired by a song from one of our Mamas from this archive.
If you’re in Nairobi on May 22nd, I expect to see you there, my people! Come share music, food and conversation about the role of song heritage in our communities.
