Weathering and its Types

Definition

Is the breakdown of rock at the earth’s surface by the action of rain water, extremes of temperature and biological activity?

There are three types of weathering

1.      Physical weathering

Chemical weathering also known as mechanical weathering or degradation is the process class theft causes rocks to disintegrate without a chemical change.

2. chemical weathering

Chemical weathering changes rock composition often transforming them into different chemical reactions when water interacts with minerals or chemical weathering is a gradual and ongoing process as the rock mineralogy adjusts to the environment near the surface.

·         A fold surface seen perpendicular to its shortening direction can be divided into hinge and limb. Portions, the limbs are the flanks of the fold and the hinge cone is where the limbs coverage. While a fault cone is a cluster of parallel fault. However, the term is also used for the zone of crushed rock along a single fault.

·         Minor folds are quite frequently seen in out crop; major folds seldom are excepting the more a ride country. While all faults have a measurable thickness, made up of the deformed rock characteristic of the level in the crust where the types affected by the fault and the presence and nature of any mineralizing fluids.

·         Folding resulted in the Himalayan maintains alps etc. while faulting results in the formation and river valley like the Narmada, tapi.

3.Biological weathering is the weakening and subsequent breakdown by plants animals and microbes of rock.

What are weathering, erosion and deposition.

Are processes that have occurred over billions of years to wear down and build up the earth’s surface. All these processes act together in continual cycle.

Weathering is the breaking down of rock.

Rock get Brocken down by agents including water ice, wind, animals and growing plants.

Erosion is the movement of material from broken down rocks. This material is called sediment and is made of rocks, minerals and plants and animals remains. Erosion agents include water, ice, wind and gravity.

Deposition: is the dropping of sediment in a new place. Some examples of deposition are the formation of an island or sand dunes.
