South African singer Tyla says she is “proud to be African” after winning the Best African Music Performance category for her song Push 2 start at the 2026 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
This is Tyla’s second Grammy after she also won in 2024 with her hit song, Water. Speaking in a backstage interview following her 2026 win, Tyla said she was “so grateful” and expressed pride in her African identity. The category recognises African music styles and artists with global reach. Tyla won ahead of a competitive field of nominees, including Nigeria’s Davido, Burna Boy and Ayra Starr.

"My career looks like a prãnk to everyone but I'm gonna keep winning." Tyla

"I'm not in competition with anyone. I'm just chilling, having fun, and making good music. I'm here to stay." ~ Tyla.
Tyla reminds everyone who called her a j0ke when she came out with ”Water” that she's here to stay.
